An Angel Going Up... and Down

The other night we watched some old movie shorts from the '50s and a lot of the videos were very depressing. There was a video about kids in an orphanage whose toys broke when they played with them Christmas morning (but the inventor came and made them all new toys and even a tree); and there was one of a brother and sister who were so poor they couldn't eat a meal and had holey blankets to sleep in during the cold (but the baker came and made them a huge Christmas dinner). I explained to Samantha that these kids were unfortunate and had no mommy or daddy or grandmas or papas and couldn't afford toys or food or anything. She felt sad for them and I asked her if she wanted to donate some toys to the unfortunate kids, and she agreed. I figured we would donate her old toys to the school and get new toys for the Christmas kids. We stopped by the dollar store to stock up- Let's say we were to purchase one $15 gift for a friend, that would be 15 toys to multiple kids! We got a puzzle, football, coloring books, crayons, (barbie) doll, drums, among other stuff... and conveniently, they happened to have a collection box right there in front of the store. So that took the guess work out of where we would do a drop off and which organization we would have to choose. I placed all the items on the floor for the manager to sticker and Sammie got to drop each one in the box. She was so happy to get toys for the kids!
We stopped at the mall so I could pick up some shoes for Sam (but they didn't have her size) and it was her first time riding the escalator as a wondrous little girl. She loved riding the "ezsgalator", so I let her go up and down again and again. She was still asking about it at bedtime. I guess we'll have to go back this weekend to ride.
Now, you know Pink Baby was coming too.

PS~ She found a baby in the store and started talking to her mommy. The mommy asked about Sammie's baby's name and she actually replied "This is Pink Baby". Samantha also went on and on about how she has a pink stroller at home like the baby in the store and how Baby Stella has her old green pacis. As the lady dealt with her purchase then came back, she thanked Samantha for babysitting her little girl.
